Marine engineer supervising vessel construction at shipyard

Newbuilding Supervision

Your eyes and ears at the shipyard — from first steel to delivery

Naval Plan Pro provides independent, owner-side supervision throughout the construction of your vessel. Our engineers attend the shipyard, inspect the work, manage defects, and represent your interests at every critical stage — so you take delivery of a vessel that is exactly what you ordered.

Why independence matters

We work for you — not the shipyard

Most large ship management companies offer newbuilding supervision as part of a broader commercial relationship with shipyards. Naval Plan Pro has no such relationship. Our only obligation is to the owner. That means we raise defects the shipyard would prefer to overlook, push back on schedule pressure that compromises quality, and give you an honest assessment of what you are actually receiving — not what the yard wants you to believe.

No commercial relationship with any shipyard
Engineers report directly to the owner
Defects formally recorded and tracked to closure
Honest progress reporting — not yard-generated updates

Scope of service

What newbuilding supervision covers

01

Pre-Contract

Before you sign the shipbuilding contract, we review the technical specification, maker's list, and contract terms to identify gaps and risks. We advise on specification improvements and flag commercial terms that could expose you to cost overruns or quality shortfalls.

Pre-Contract
  • Technical specification review and gap analysis
  • Maker's list evaluation and equipment recommendations
  • Shipbuilding contract technical review
  • Shipyard capability assessment
02

Design & Approval

We manage the drawing approval process with the classification society and flag state, ensuring drawings are submitted correctly, technical comments are resolved promptly, and approvals are secured without delaying the construction programme.

Design & Approval
  • Classification society drawing submission and comment resolution
  • Flag state approval coordination
  • Drawing register management and version control
  • Maker's approval and equipment specification compliance
03

Construction

Our engineers attend the shipyard at defined hold points and critical milestones throughout the construction period. Between visits, we maintain remote oversight through yard reports, drawing reviews, and direct communication with the site team.

Construction
  • Keel laying and block assembly inspections
  • Hull structure and weld quality inspections
  • Machinery and equipment installation oversight
  • Outfitting and systems commissioning attendance
  • NCR and defect management throughout construction
  • Weekly and monthly progress reporting to owner
04

Trials & Delivery

We attend dock trials and sea trials to verify that the vessel performs to specification. Before delivery, we conduct a thorough inspection and produce a formal punch list of any outstanding items the shipyard must complete before you accept the vessel.

Trials & Delivery
  • Dock trial and inclining experiment attendance
  • Sea trial attendance and performance verification
  • Pre-delivery inspection and punch list management
  • Delivery documentation review and handover support
  • Guarantee claim support post-delivery

Purpose-built software

Supervision backed by structured project management tools

Naval Plan Pro's supervision service is supported by our own NCR Management application — a purpose-built tool for recording inspection findings, tracking defects to closure, and maintaining a complete audit trail from first steel to delivery. Every NCR is formally logged, assigned, and tracked. Nothing falls through the cracks.
